Press release:
LucasArts and TT Games today announced that LEGO® Indiana Jones®: The Videogame [working title] will whip onto game consoles everywhere in summer 2008. Developed by the same team at Traveller’s Tales that created the LEGO Star Wars™ series, LEGO Indiana Jones presents a tongue-in-cheek take on the first three cinematic adventures of pop culture’s most iconic archaeologist, including Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

"LucasArts and TT Games are setting the bar for next-generation family entertainment with the LEGO Star Wars franchise, and our incredible relationship continues with LEGO Indiana Jones," said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts. "In addition to providing the quality bonding time inspired by any good family game, LEGO Indiana Jones delivers something a little different for everyone. Parents will enjoy the humorous take on some of their favorite movies, and their kids get some rousing action/adventure gameplay that may also introduce them to Indy’s original adventures for the first time."

"It has been a real joy to work with LucasArts on the LEGO Star Wars games. Indiana Jones is the perfect character for the next LEGO-based videogame adventure," said Tom Stone, director at TT Games. "Indy also presents us with wonderful and memorable cinematic moments. The boulder scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark in LEGO is hilarious!"

Lucasfilm Ltd. recently announced that the LEGO Group will begin releasing LEGO Indiana Jones playsets in January 2008. Meanwhile, LucasArts remains hard at work on its revolutionary, internally developed Indiana Jones videogame, which takes place a year after The Last Crusade in an original story overseen by George Lucas.

Running throughout the weekend on July 27th to July 28th, Microsoft’s and Jacky’s Smackdown VS Raw competition held at the Jacky’s in Mall of the Emirates (why are such competitions held so far? Try City Center next time please) came to end with two lucky winners winning prizes that would make you smile for the rest of the month.

Rizwan and Yugal, the winners of the competition

As the saying goes, big surprises comes in small packages and this was pretty evident when the 10 yr old Yugal showed who is the boss at the competition, easily managing to reach the finals along with the 20 yr old Rizwan. After a fierce competition, Rizwan came out triumphs and won the competition winning the grand prize of a Microsoft Xbox 360 console, 26inch LCD TV, and 3 Xbox 360 games which included Gears of War, Dead or Alive 4 (good thing the adult won, ahem) and Project Gotham Racing 3.

Other participants walked away with shirts, caps and PC games, which was given to every participant.

Stranglehold, Midway’s action shooter made in assistance with John Woo, is one of those games I have been waiting to get my scrubby plump hands on for a long time. Delayed and defying last year’s release date, it is now slated to (finally) release next month.

The Xbox 360 and PC version of the game will release on August 27th while the Playstation 3 version is delayed by a couple of weeks, releasing on September 17th. No reasons were stated for this delay.

Xbox 360 and PS3 will also be getting limited edition boxes, were the PS3 will get Hard Boiled movie, to which this game is a sequel to, and the Xbox 360 will get behind the scene videos plus sound and concept art. The limited edition will will cost $69 while the regular game will cost $59.

Viva Pinata fluffs on to the DS

After announcing it for the PC, along with Gears of War at E3 2007, Rare has announced that its critically acclaimed strategy game Viva Pinata will be headed for Nintendo DS.

At this year’s Comic-Con, Rare said that the game will be pretty much the same game as it was on the Xbox 360. It will feature the same principles and basics. And if in case you are wondering if DS will be able to produce the visual brilliance seen in the 360 version, the developers said that there was no need to worry about it and it will be pleasant surprise. Of course, it doesn’t have 360 hardware power but the cool touch screen found in the DS will be used to its full optimum.

Good decision from Rare and Microsoft. I believe Viva Pinata will do better business on this platform than on any other.

Bioware has released a Director’s Cut edition of their E3 2007 Trailer of Mass Effect and is up for grabs in HD resolution at its official website. I have heard of Director’s Cut of a movie or a game, but for a trailer? Ha! Hilarious! Doesn’t matter though, because the video, in online 7333T slang, is the awesomeness.

Lionhead celebrates its 10th anniversary and releases new episode in the studios video series

Get up close and personal with the team at Lionhead, currently celebrating the studio’s 10th Anniversary and working on “Fable 2” for Xbox 360, the highly-anticipated follow up to the best-selling, Xbox exclusive “Fable.” Episode Two highlights the innovative one-button combat system that gamers will experience in the sequel. Slated for a 2008 release, “Fable 2” represents the studio’s 10-year dedication to creating some of the best and most beloved video games in the industry.

“This is a very exciting time for us,” said Peter Molyneux, managing director of Lionhead Studios. “Ten years in this industry is no small feat. We have a great team that is committed to pushing the limits of what we can do with today’s technology; ten years and counting.”

With the release of Episode Two, listen to Molyneux and the rest of the Lionhead team tell comical anecdotes about their “real-life” combat encounters and meet an eclectic “sword” master whom the studio hired to demonstrate how “real sword fighting is done.” Strangely enough, several members of the Lionhead team own life-size metal weapons, which allowed for daily parking lot meetings and additional comedic relief. To round out their focus on combat, fellow UK developer’s Lionhead and Rare played an intense, yet good-natured game of football, where there was no shortage of fun and/or combat.

With more episodes to come, look for continued behind the scenes tours of “Fable 2.” Get a sneak peek inside the game, as well as get to know the people behind the action. Being a hero or heroine, fighting, questing and adventuring are central to the “Fable” experience. With the upcoming release of “Fable 2,” gamers will be one step closer to fulfilling their dreams of being good or evil; getting married or remaining single; and finding out what it means to experience unconditional love in the world of “Fable.”

Every choice continually defines who the character becomes in “Fable 2,” allowing players to truly live the life they choose.

Happy Anniversary Lionhead!
