Creaters of Boom Blox Laid Off
Entire team of the Wii puzzle game gets the barrel end.
According to reports, the entire team of Boom Blox has been laid off. Boom Blox was a puzzle game for the Wii created in collaboration with movie director Steven Spielberg.
Jeff Dixon, now-former Electronic Arts Los Angeles senior software engineer, wrote this on his LinkedIn profile, “Jeff Dixon Has joined the ranks of the EALA departed. The Boom Blox team was laid off today.” It seemed the team was working on a Project Natal-based game for the Xbox 360. The project, however, may still be alive. When asked, a spokesperson from EA had this to say to Kotaku:
We wish good luck to all the employees in getting their roll back on.This is a routine event and not in any way related to EA’s announced restructuring. Moving projects to leverage development strengths is common in global studio organizations. In this case, a small project has been moved from EA Los Angeles, to the EA Bright Light Studio in Guildford, UK, where the Harry Potter franchise and several of the Hasbro properties are developed. A small number of employees were impacted by the decision. All eligible employees will receive severance and outplacement assistance. EA remains fully committed to maintaining its EALA studio which is the headquarters for the mobile division as well as for development of franchises like Medal of Honor, Command & Conquer and others.
