Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins now banned in the UAE
The National Media Council says no to two top EA titles.
We’ve received word from EA that Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origin have been banned in the UAE. Rather surprising news as the games have been out in stores for a while now. We have no word on what prompted the ban but watch this space for more information. We’re guessing it has something to do with some rather raunchy scenes in the game. The UAE’s National Media Council probably banned the game after someone reported the sensual scenes in Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins after playing the game.

In 2009, another one of EA’s games, The Godfather II, was pulled out of stores after it was banned following its release. Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins follow a similar trend where a game has been banned after it has been released.
As the game is now banned, EA has politely asked us to cancel the competition we’re running for four copies of Mass Effect 2. Sorry folks, but watch out for more great competitions soon.

That's very sad. A kissing scene in ME2, the characters don't even take their clothes off! I see more kissing and sex on TV aired here than I have scene in any video game. Does the council tune in to all the music channels?
I've played Mass Effect2 twice, and there's not nudity what-so-ever, you see more nudity at the Cirque Du Soleil.

Anybody knows if I can ship it via registered courier? Or custom will still ban or confiscate it? I bought one from Amazon and I'm afraid they will confiscate from the custom.. I really hope not. Any ideas? Thanks.
Always try to get games locally first. There are websites like Nahel.com which are based in Dubai and offer 'all' games at excellent prices. They have ME2 for AED 205. You can also check out shops like Gamestreet, Fantastic Games, etc too. Visit our forums for the locations and other contact info.
Since you have already ordered from Amazon, let's hope for the best. I don't think they will confiscate it.
Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah I really hope so, I would be really pissed if that happens. I actually bought Dragon Age Origins CE, I have the ME2 CE a week before it was banned. If you happen to know where can I get DAO CE I wouldn't mind buying another one.. whatever the cost. I really dying to get one. Thanks.

You could try calling Nahel and see if they can arrange one for you. Also, Gamestreet and other small shops. You can also try the bigger retail chains like Geekay Games, Virgin, SharafDG.
I really appreciate you helping me out here and all other gamers here as well. Last question, I'm not really aware of these small shops, where is Gamestreet? I already checked my friends at Geekay, Virgin and SharafDG, they said it was all confiscated. Too bad.
