Nintendo On Top in Holiday Sales
Japan giant dominates in both hardware and software sales.
We have some news that may not go down well with Sony and Microsoft supporters: Nintendo. Even with an abysmal line up of titles for their system, Nintendo’s Wii continues to rock the boat of both the PS3 and Xbox 360, not only in hardware but software sales as well. NPD is out with the holiday sales numbers and the charts show the Nintendo Wii and DS far (faaar!) out numbering Sony’s and Microsoft’s offering, selling 3.81m units and 3.31m units respectively compared to PS3′s 1.36m and Xbox 360′s 1.31m units.
In terms of software sales, Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros (2.82m units), Wii Fit Plus (2.41m units) and Wii Sports Resort w/Motion Plus (1.79m units) dominated the top slots with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Xbox 360 and PS3 following at no.4 and no. 5.
