SimCity will be sold outside of Origin, requires an Internet connection

Always-on Internet required due to the game’s use of a global economy.
EA’s upcoming SimCity re-boot will be sold outside of Origin as well, a company representative confirmed to JoyStiq. A list of stores has yet to be finalized, so it is unclear if it will be available on Steam.
In a related note, lead designer Stone Librande said that SimCity will require an always-on Internet connection to play the game. They are not calling it a DRM, and and probably will not function as one, but the necessity of an active Internet connection comes from the game’s heavy emphasis on multiplayer, and the use of a global economy that players can potentially influence.
SimCity is scheduled for a 2013 release.
