Rumor: Sony is taking Zipper Interactive down
Massive layoffs within the studio suggest they could be shuttered down soon.
Sony is in the process of shutting down Zipper Interactive, according to sources close to Kotaku.
The source points to a project cancellation and firing of the major of the staff as indication that the studio is hinging on its last moments.
This is all a rumor for now, so assume nothing until we have a final confirmation. Sony is maintaining a ‘no comment’ stance for the time being.
Formed in 1996 by Jim Bosler and Brian Soderberg, Zipper Interactive shot to fame with MechWarrior 3 and Crimon Skies. In 2006, the studio was bought by Sony, who helped produced the popular third-person shooter series SOCOM. Zipper’s latest, and possibly its last title, was Unit 13 for the PS Vita.
