Darksiders II will be a Wii U launch title
Will take advantage of the console’s touchscreen controller.
Vigil Games lead designer Hayden Dalton has confirmed to Digital Spy that Darksiders II will be released for Nintendo’s next-generation console at “day one”, suggesting that it won’t be a straight port, with the developer opting to make sure the final release will make use of the platform’s touted features.
“That’s been very interesting to see what those guys are doing, and they’re making efforts to make sure we do use it in more than a slapdash way,” Dalton said.
“It’s basically the core game, but then with added abilities to do certain things that you can’t do on the other consoles.”
Tapping on the controller’s touchscreen will allow for instant equipping, a feature ought to be Wii U-exclusive.
“That’s huge, it’s not breaking up the game in a way, I’m not going into a menu and assigning it, I’m literally just tapping as I’m playing,” he explained. “We’re not heavily changing the core game to support the control system, but the control system will be an enhancement of the core game.”
Darksiders II is currently pegged for a June 29 outing on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The Wii U version has no date with the console lacking a firm launch schedule.
