SEGA teases Shenmue remake for XBLA, PSN
It will happen, most likely.
Fans have been questioning the mere existing idea of Shenmue 3 for far too long. Eventually some decided to get back to reality and bury down what little hopes they had for its occurrence, with Sega deciding to hold the classic series down for years. Now, although Shenmue 3 might still sound more of a farfetched idea to materialize, seems that the original Dreamcast classic could be heading the digital route as a remake – that’s according to Sega’s brand manager, Ben Harborne.
In a recent interview with GameReactor, Harborne was quizzed if they’d like to hear a word from fans regarding what titles they wish to be remade, of which he replied, saying: “Yes, definitely, but I can tell you what it’s going to be, it’s going to be Shenmue. And Skies Of Arcadia too.”
He didn’t want to sound official, so he backtracked a little afterwards, adding: “They’re a couple of our most requested games. I can’t say ‘yes’ or ‘no’, but we may be working on them.”
HD remakes of Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia sound like a pretty sweet deal from Sega, which should compensate for them never breaking silence regarding both cherished franchises for the past years. All we want from you Sega now is making a new console and kicking the living crap out of competition. Yeah… I might have gone a little too far here.
