Metal Gear lifetime sales round at 31 million
25-year-old franchise still going strong.
Stealth-based series Metal Gear is big – really big! It’s one of those franchises that history shall never overlook and only because we haven’t seen many Metal Gear games this generation, doesn’t mean the series haven’t racked up much in lifetime sales. In fact, Konami has just broken down a sales figure, revealing that the total number currently stands at nearly 31 million worldwide.
Konami disclosed the number shortly after the re-release of PS2 classic Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, which was remade in 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. The 3D remake was released as part of Metal Gear’s 25th anniversary.
The legendary franchise debuted with the original Metal Gear on the MSX2 back in 1987. Current project in the series is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – a title being developed by Platinum Games for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
