Mass Effect 3 is off to a blazing start in Norh America, with EA revealing the game sold 890,000 copies within the first 24 hours upon its launch.

Speaking at the Wedbush Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference in NYC, EA boss John Riccitiello disclosed the figure, saying he’s feeling “awfully good” about BioWare’s action RPG and that the publisher “anticipated it doing well, so we’re happy.”

As for the game’s day one DLC, apparently many gamers were interested in adding a voucher code with their Mass Effect 3 copy. US retailer GameStop says approximately 40 percent of customers bought a download code for DLC ‘From Ashes’. “The tie ratio at the register is the highest in their history,” said Riccitiello.

Mass Effect 3 released in North America on March 6. It launched in Europe today.
