Gabe Newell is the 854th richest person in the world. That’s according Forbes, who has released its annual who’s-got-the-most-money-on-the-planet list.
"Giving me your billions still does not qualify you to ask me about Half Life 3. Nope."
Newell, who owns more than 50% off Valve and has surprisingly managed to keep in privately funded, is worth $1.5 billion. Thanks to Portal 2′s and Steam’s incredible success last year, which raked in $3 billion for the company, Newell now joins the esteemed company of film celebrates, gambling rollers, and business tycoons.
“Privately-held Valve Corporation is tight-lipped about revenues, and Newell doesn’t comment on his personal finances. So in order to estimate his net worth, Forbes consulted with video game industry insiders, equity analysts, investment bankers, and technology analysts to figure out what the company is worth. Even the most conservative estimates put Valve’s enterprise value at more than $3 billion, and since Newell owns more than 50% of the company, that means he’s worth at least $1.5 billion.”
Now that’s great, Gabe. How about that Half Life 3, though?
