First Impressions
My reaction is

Are we inching towards photorealistic visuals? Will the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 horse enough power in their stables to output visuals effects that brings sprawling landscapes and object and architecture to life? We are certainly hoping so, and today Codemasters’ lead artist Mike Smith and Dead End Thrills techmaster Duncan Harris gives a look into that possible future.

The below screenshots are rendered on hardware as powerful as the rumored specifications for the next-gen console, showcasing the scale, lighting and texture quality that is expected to the norm in video games to come.

“If you look at the amount of effort that goes into lighting at companies like Pixar, we’re quite some way away from being able to leverage that control. (But) once we have a toolset to do that, art directors can go crazy,” said Smith.
