Epic will showcase Unreal Engine 4 at GDC
Next-gen tech will be shown at San Francisco conference, but privately.
Unreal Engine 4, the next iteration in the widely-used gaming tech, will be previewed early next month at GDC, Epic has confirmed.
According to the company, the new tech will be shown off to “select licensees, partners and prospective customers,” with NDAs needed to be signed before seeing the next-gen release of the engine in action.
Last year, Epic blown everyone away with the glorious Samaritan tech demo, which showed off the thrilling capabilities of a high-end version of Unreal Engine 3 running in real-time across a 3-way SLI Nvidia GTX 580 graphics cards. Does this mean Unreal Engine 4 will be as close to the Samaritan footage in terms of visual prowess? Well, it surely is what we all hope for. Although I highly doubt Epic would want to make an engine that requires hardware that is ten times more powerful than current consoles. But instead I believe their priority is making an engine that scales pretty decently even on next-gen consoles. Yet again, time will eventually tell.
