Sony thought Demon’s Souls was “crap”
Product development manager admits ‘dropping the ball’ on the title.
SCE product development head Shuhei Yoshida admitted he dropped the ball by choosing not to publish 2009′s instant hit Demon’s Soul in North America, saying that he “should have been more stubborn talking to marketing people here in North America and Europe.”
Just why he decide against publishing it? He thought it was terrible and a piece of “crap”.
“For my personal experience with Demon’s Souls, when it was close to final I spent close to two hours playing it and after two hours I was still standing at the beginning at the game. I said, “This is crap. This is an unbelievably bad game.” So I put it aside.”
Demon’s Soul was lapped up by Atlus, who released the action title in 2009 to both critical appreciation and financial success. The game has so far spawned a sequel with Dark Souls, which released last year to an equally lauded reception.
