[Updated] Kaz Hirai to step up as Sony president, according to report
SCE president supposedly claiming new position as early as April.
Update: Sony has denied the report. Hirai is not getting a promotion.
Original Story: A Nikkei business report is claiming that Kazuo Hirai, PlayStation veteran and current executive deputy president of Sony Computer Entertainment, will be taking over as president of Sony Corporation in the few coming months
A board meeting will be held next month, which will regulate the process of replacing current Sony boss, CEO and chairman Sir Howard Stringer – who will apparently be stripped from his position, with Hirai stepping up as new Sony president as early as April.
It concludes that Stringer is likely to maintain his role as chairman and chief executive officer.
Hirai, the early-2011-appointed deputy president, also manages Sony’s consumer businesses – hence another promotion for the man wouldn’t be surprising at all. Better wait for an official word from Sony.
