Modern Warfare 3 day-one shipments are largest in industry’s history
Also Black Ops sells 20 million DLC packs.
Honestly who didn’t see this coming? Yet again, Call of Duty keeps proving, for some reason, how massively-popular of a game it really is. In fact, the juggernaut’s latest iteration has set a new mindboggling bar with the initial shipments figure making it the biggest in the industry’s history.
“The record number of pre-orders from Modern Warfare 3 drove the largest day-one shipments in our history, and in the industry’s history,” said Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg during last night’s earnings call.
While Modern Warfare 3 just recently launched on November 8, Activision has yet to disclose a sales figure. Though, Hishberg was keen to add that nearly 1.5 million soul gathered to buy Modern Warfare 3 during its midnight release – that’s across 13,000 shops worldwide, which made it the “largest retail release in Activision’s history and in the industry’s history.”
Elsewhere, Activision said that Black Ops has flogged 20-million of the $15 map pack DLCs, netting in nearly $366 million in revenue. Again, the generated income from the map packs alone would make it the “third largest console title of the year.”
