As part of celebration for GTA III’s tenth anniversary, Rockstar’s revealed it’s to release Grand Theft Auto III, the company’s PlayStation 2 classic, on both iOS and Android devices.

The franchise’s mobile 3D debut will be available starting October 22, which is the exact date for its anniversary.

Rockstar says GTA III will support only select mobile platforms, including Apple’s iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. While on the Android side, expect it to run on the following devices; Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S2, Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

“Grand Theft Auto III showed us the potential of open world games,” said Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser. “It helped set the vision for the company, and we have been expanding on those possibilities with every game ever since.”

Grand Theft Auto III will be available to play at New York’s ComicCon during the weekend.

The announcement doesn’t quite end here – Rockstar has also confirmed the release of a limited edition figure of GTA III’s main protagonist, Claude, who comes fully decked with his renowned orange prison jumpsuit, in addition to his normal baggy pants and bomber jacket.

Grand Theft Auto III, released on PlayStation 2 back in 2001, was hailed as one of the first titles to pioneer the open-world genre.

Other than his excessively biased enthusiasm toward gaming, and technology behind the whole industry, there's a huge fondness inside that drives him nuts to pick up his keyboard and start writing for the love of it.
