Apple announces iPhone 4S, Infinity Blade 2 incoming
2x faster, 7x more visual juice, 8MP camera, and Siri.
The iPhone 4 is now no longer the cool, hip smartphone you want to be found with. Apple today announced the iPhone 4S at its annual unveil-something-new conference.
The iPhone 4S will be 2 times faster than the normal iPhone 4 (and 7x faster for graphics), much thanks to its dual-core A5 processor goodness. Apple has also increased battery life capacity, bringing it to 8hrs of talk time over 3G, or 6hrs of internet browsing over 3G.
Mike Capps from Epic Games also made an appearance, showcasing Infinity Blade 2 for the iPhone 4S. Obviously, the game will harness the new found power of the 4S to add even more visual goodness. The game will be released in December exclusively for the iPhone 4S.
The iPhone 4S will also feature an 8MP camera, which can snap resolutions of upto 3264×2448, with 33% faster performance than before (ala half a second between each shot). It can also capture videos at 1080p, with image stabilization and noise reduction features fitted in.
Users will also be able to speak to their 4S, much thanks to Siri, a voice recognition Google-with-another-name that tells you what you seek. On stage, Apple demonstrated the technology, asking for the current weather which the software promptly provided. I wonder if it would fetch me some Cheetos as well?
Siri can also read stuff to you, like messages, and also allows you to set calendar entries like meetings, etc. All by voice. Sweet. It does searches as well, like defining words. It’s as simple as “Siri define “lawsuit”, boom!
So to recap, Siri does almost everything by voice what you can with your fingers – create notes, set calendars, dictate stuff, send emails, cook food. Okay maybe not that one, but soon…soon.
iPhone 4S will come packaged with the iOS 5, which is scheduled to release on October 14. The new update will be free for rest of the un-cool people, fortunately. The phone will retail at the usual prices: 16GB for $199, 32GB for $299, and 64GB for $399 (the latter being a first for the iPhone). The iPhone 4 will now retail $99, while the 3GS has been made free. No seriously.
Pre-orders begin from October 7th. Releases on October 14.
