My reaction is

To our surprise, Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One: The Game was on the Sony stand at GAMES11, giving Indian fans the masala flavor of playing the eternal loveboy in a snazzy costume. Being an Indian, so Bollywood runs in my blood, I lapped up the opportunity to give SRK’s pet project a go.

Two mins in, and I was groaning and rolling my eyes in utter disgust. And then I checked myself; was I really expecting something good? I realized I was – after all the movie has incredible hype surrounding it.

Alas, the devil of crappy movie-to-game adaptation continues to prosper, and he knows no language, be it English or Hindi. Ra.One is a broken, frustrating and insanely stupid copy of the crappiest Spiderman man there ever was. Not only is the camera angle still and poorly placed, the character you control appears tiny on screen, and among a sea of equally tiny enemies, who are times more powerful and merciless, you are easily lost. And beaten. There are number of modes as well, including a story campaign, though there does not appear to be any story to it. It just places you in a campiest room a sci-fi movie has ever made with enemies spewing cheesy lines again and again. It’s ridiculous.

Ra.One is hyped for its visual effects, but the game’s visuals are far from being considered worthy. It is releases on the PS2, so no complains there, but the build shown at GAMES11 was for the PS3, and apparently no HD-magic was performed to make it look better. My only worry with this game is that, it might actually sell well. It is said that in Indian, two things really sell well: sex and SRK, and fans might just lap on to it. We don’t want other film makers pulling such pranks, now do we?

I like cake. I also like to play games and write/rant about them. Coincidence? I think not.
