If you vision making your own game, and into game development, you can finally grab the piece of software that powered Crysis 2, as the Frankfurt-based studio has kindly made the complete CryEngine 3 SDK available for free on CryDev.

“Crytek is excited to announce that they will release their latest all-in-one game development solution CryENGINE 3 free of charge for non-commercial use today,” the studio said.

Crytek says the SDK will offer those with capable programming skills the ability to produce “AAA quality next generation games for PC”. It also includes “the CryENGINE 3 Sandbox level editor, a production-proven, 3rd generation ‘What you see is what you play’ (WYSIWYP) – tool designed by and for professional developers.”

“This SDK contains more toys than we’ve ever released before – it empowers people to create whole new games from scratch, not just mod Crytek’s own games, so we encourage all aspiring and indie developers to try it out,” said CryEngine director of global business development, Carl Jones. Pretty cool stuff indeed.

Though, it states that developing games from the open-source software is permitted for non-commercial purposes – means, if distributed to the public, it should remain free. Otherwise, publishing a paid CryEngine 3-made project will require developers to shell out Crytek a licensing fee.

Other than his excessively biased enthusiasm toward gaming, and technology behind the whole industry, there's a huge fondness inside that drives him nuts to pick up his keyboard and start writing for the love of it.
