PS3 3.70 firmware showers automatic update love to PS Plus subscribers
Recommendation system to be introduced, improvements on Blu-ray 3D incoming.
Sony today detailed the upcoming v3.70 firmware update for the Playstation 3, giving another reason for Playstation Plus subscribers to strut their badge (as if free games and DLC offers weren’t enough).
The paying member of the PSN fratentiy will now be able to choose to auto-backup game saves and trophies. The Automatic Download feature will be renamed to Automatic Update.
The other updates, which will be made available to everyone, includes a new recommendation system. As the name suggests, it will allow users to ‘recommend’ stuff from the Playstation Store, such as games and videos, to their friends. Users can send messages with a store link from the product pages within the Playstation Store.
All video streaming services like Netflix, Hulu PLUS and VUDU will be shifted to a new category on XMB called TV/Video Services. Users will also be able to find and download all of the video applications available directly from this new category.
Blu-ray 3D users have something to look forward to as well. 3D support will be added when accessing the Java-based special features on Blu-ray. Support fr DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD HR decoding/bit streaming for 3D movies have been added as well.
The v3.70 update will be available “soon”.
