Hiari: Vita to launch end of this year for Japan, next year for others
So, not October then, huh.
Sony Entertainment chairman Kaz Hirari trounced on the recent October 28 launch rumor for the Playstation Vita by saying that it will only release by end of this year, and that too for the Japanese audience only. Folks elsewhere will have to wait till next year.
This is according to a report from AP, who also quotes Hiari dismissing any potential price drop for Vita following Nintendo’s $80 lean cut for the 3DS.
“We packed so much into the device and made it very affordable,” Hirai told reporters at Sony’s Tokyo headquarters. “There is no need to lower the price just because somebody else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to lower their price.”
Playstation Vita will retail at $249 for the WiFi only model (AED 1000) and at $299 for WiFi + 3G model (AED 1300). The 3DS will retail at $169.99 from mid-August.
