Catherine boasts biggest launch in Atlus history
Adult-themed puzzle title exceeds sales expectations.
Catherine is a quirky title from Atlus – the publishers of the acclaimed Persona series. The game is so idiosyncratic it’s really hard to describe it; although it’s essentially puzzle-driven and boasts a story which you would never expect in a puzzle-based title. The thing is that unique Japanese games don’t do well in North America, however, that’s not the case with Catherine.
While exact numbers haven’t been offered, Atlus marketing and sales VP Tim confirmed to IGN that Catherine has been Atlus’ biggest “launch in the 20-year history” of the company.
“Catherine has exceeded our highest expectations,” he said. “It released last week to tremendous critical acclaim and fan response, bolstered by the release of a demo a couple weeks prior, and continues to generate discussion among fans for its mature themes, engrossing subject matter, and frantic, challenging gameplay.
“It is fitting, then, that Catherine can boast the largest launch in the 20-year history of Atlus, and continues to see strong sales at retail.”
Catherine launched last week in North America, with current plans for a PAL release where publishing duty was given to Deep Silver.
