Sony confirms “network pass program” for PS3 titles
Like other initiatives, the PSN pass will allow players to access a game’s multiplayer campaign.
Sony yesterday confirmed that it will be introducing a “network pass program” for its future PS3 titles, beginning with Insomniac Games’ Resistance 3 in September, as rumored earlier.
The online pass system, similar to EA’s Project Ten Dollar and other initiatives from other developers, will allow players to log into a game’s multiplayer campaign after redeeming a code bundled with the game. Sony is calling it a commitment to “enhance premium online services”, although such moves are largely considered to be a way to combat second hand sales.
Sony has stressed that the new program will be “game-specific”.
“We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities,” a SCEE statement reads.
“This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.
“This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.”
Resistance 3 is scheduled for September 9, of course, exclusively on the PS3.
