Blizzard has announced a new Starter Edition for World of Warcraft that now allows players to play the game for free upto lvl20.

According to MTV Multiplayer, the new edition includes content from the game’s first expansion pack, The Burning Crusade. After lvl20, of course, players would require to purchase the full game and pay up for one of the subscription model, the basic of which costs $15/month.

It’s a wise move from Blizzard. Many developers are adopting the F2P model for their MMOs, banking on in-game micro-transactions to bring in the revenue. After lvl20, Blizzard is hoping players will be too attached to their characters to let go…which is exactly how an addiction works…but we will let that pass…

This is indeed a very smart move from Blizzard. This will open the doors to new and curious gamers would woudn’t want to spend 15/month before playing it. Now, they can get a taste of it, and when the addiction kicks in, and it WILL, they won’t be able to stop playing :)

Isn’t it great how corporations take advantages of our addictions?

Thank God I work and really have no time to even try to play this game, cause I know my wife will divorce if I start the addiction…
