Blizzard still mulling over a Diablo III console port
While the latest Diablo will be the easiest to port to a console, platform limitation makes Blizzard hesitant.
Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime, speaking during the recently concluded DICE, said the company is still looking into the possibility of porting Diablo III over to the consoles, but prefers the good ol’ PC for now.
“I think you could make an argument that a game like Diablo might play very well on a console,” said Morhaime. “It’s something that we’re actually doing an investigation into to see if that could make sense.”
Morhaime says that there are a number issues that needs to be addressed before the console version is even thought of. For one, a major hurdle is to patch and add expansions, actions which are much easier on the PC, though not completely impossible on the consoles either.
When asked if Diablo III would be the easiest game from Blizzard to port over to consoles, Morhaime simply nodded in agreement.
We do hope that Diablo III does carry over to the consoles so everyone can have a share of Blizzard’s genius. However, I am with developers when they say they would prefer to stick to the PC for now. Let’s have the idea and the concept prepared before venturing out into unfamiliar territories shall we?
During Activision’s financial call yesterday that saw the cancellation of Guitar Hero, CFO Thomas Tippl said not to expect anything from Blizzard this year, though two titles would be coming next year.
