Bioshock: Infinite not “one giant action sequence”
Devs. promises next Bioshock won’t be heavy on scripted events.
The recent 9min long Bioshock: Infinite gameplay video, though impressive, has sent shivers down the fan community with worries that the game maybe a little bit too heavy on pre-directed events. Irrational Games have, however, tried to ease the situation a little by saying that if the video came out as too scripty, it was all for the purpose of introducing the game and the characters to the players. The final retail version will be much more like Bioshock 1.
“No, it’s definitely not going to be one giant action sequence,” lead artist Shaun Robertson revealed in a statement to Eurogamer. “Our purpose was to introduce people to the world of Columbia, to Elizabeth and to Booker DeWitt. Yeah, there are some demo-ey things in there that help progress the action.”
“When we’re looking at what BioShock Infinite will ship as, it’ll be much more, as far as pacing goes, like BioShock 1,” Robertson added.
“It’s very important to us that the player has time to explore. For those who enjoy being the environment, they can explore and take as long as they want. For those who just want to blow through it and get the story done, well they can avoid all the exploration areas and just plough through the story as quick as they can.”
